Port Townsend Male Seeks Good Home

This attractive young gray tabby needs a home. He is really playful and loves attention. Last week he posed for me for a variety of different shots-full body, back lit, side profile and even upside down. What a ham in front of the camera. He would make a ideal companion and is available at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter at (360) 385-3292.

Cupcakes from Perfect Endings Cupcakes in Port Townsend

I recently bought myself a cupcake from the Perfect Ending Cupcake store. A friend had bought me one for my birthday so I decided to check out the store located in downtown Port Townsend. Their shop is lovely inside with lots of choices for different flavors and sizes of cupcakes. Anyone who knows me knows that I love chocolate so it didn't take long for me to decide to go with the red velvet with chocolate frosting. I had thought I might try photographing it when I got it home. However, I barely had the lens cap off when I tried a finger full of the frosting. With one side now missing frosting I tried turning it around so the bare side didn't show up in my image finder. Didn't work, ate the whole thing. It was delicious.

Check out Perfect Ending Cupcakes website for more information. They are located at 909 Water Street, near the stoplight in the center of downtown. You can ask to have it to go and they will put it a elegant box with their label. It makes for a great presentation and it would make a great gift to give a special friend on any occasion. I guarantee the receiver will feel special and enjoy the treat inside. Next time I'll buy two one to eat and one to photograph.

I went out to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter Sunday to photography one new cat. Young Joey was a stray on hold but now is available for adoption. I updated the photos for Red and Mindy. Mindy has the most beautiful green eyes and Red has georgeous markings. Visit PetFinder  to read detailed decriptions on all the animals at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter.

Memorial Day in Port Townsend

Every year I try to attend both the Memorial Day celebration and the Veteran's Day ceremony at the Port Townsend American Legion. My Dad has been an active member of the American Legion in Wisconsin for some 60 years. When I was around 12 I was Poppy Princess one year as I sold the most poppies in our small town.  A friend shared this link with me describing the meaning of Memorial Day. I had no idea the tradition started in 1868 as Confederate Memorial Day and was changed to just Memorial Day by Congress in 1971.

This year the rain held off for the local program and I was able to get some photographs of the ceremony that was held on the dock for the placing of the wreaths over the side of the pier. Thanks to all who put on the program inside the Legion, Joe Carey, Karl Bach and the Port Townsend Band and the women of the Legion who put on the luncheon afterwards.

Later in the day I went out to the Cemetery at  Fort Worden State Park . It was one of the first times I actually walked around and looked closely at the head stones. Every head stone had a flag on it and I was surprised to see that not only service men and women were buried there but also their spouses and even children. Some one from the community had honored the headstones that listed Unknown by making a special effort to put flowers on every one of those graves.
